about our pastor Rev. Kenneth Eugene Cherry Sr.
Born into a rich tradition of Spiritual Leadership dating back five generations, Pastor Kenneth Eugene Cherry Sr. brings with him a passion for preaching God’s Word and a Love for the People of God. Accepting Jesus Christ as his personal savior Pastor was baptized by The Late Dr. V.B. Harris at the Beautiful Zion Church of Chicago at the age of 4.
Called to the ministry at the age of 12, he preached his first sermon at the Holy Trinity Church of Chicago under the tutelage of his Pastor and Father the late Reverend Charles W. Cherry Sr. in 1980. After being ordained in 1990 by The Southside Christian Fellowship District Association under the late Moderator Eugene Cherry, he was then called to pastor the New Christian Life Baptist Church of Chicago in 1992. Beginning with 4 members the church quickly grew to over 100 becoming a blessing to the body of Christ.
In early 1996 after much prayer, Pastor Cherry resigned his position as pastor seeking to serve God in other areas. It was later that year that God again placed him in pastoral ministry, being called to serve at the Christ Temple Church of Evanston IL. Under his leadership, God has caused great growth in all ministries as well as a greater spiritual consciousness. The church continues to; feed the hungry, clothe the naked, reach out to the poor, and spread the Gospel. The church has also grown to an active membership of over 300, dedicated its new edifice on June 4, 2011 and in June of 2012 began holding two services every Sunday at 8am and 11:15am. Through the leadership of the Holy Spirit Pastor Cherry also instituted an entirely new worship experience replacing Bible Study with Word and Worship Tuesday! Below are a few facts about our pastor;
